These three ladies with their walking sticks look like they’re on a pilgrimage. You wouldn’t be wrong to assume that, except that they aren’t in search of a holy order. They’re walking a kilometre on the road out of their village – the high pasture Mereta Yayla – so that they can get a mobile phone signal. I guess when you’re blessed with spectacular mountain views, you can’t have everything.

Wow, technology reaches places I would never have even guessed. What a wonderful contrast in these great images – secluded yet connected 🙂
The cellphone has been a saviour for people who live in remote places. We who live in densely populated take all our daily communication for granted.
Nice shots. I thought they were going for food or water. Modern times, huh? 🙂
Indeed. It makes you realise the things that you take for granted.
Very nice Wandering Cows; the story is very well told trough those three images. Regarding your reflection, I think that beig in that situation “you don’t need much more”!
What you say is too true. They had the most incredible views of the mountains everyday and they cannot imagine living without them.
Crazy isn t it
Absolutely. But the ladies didn’t find it a hardship at all. In fact, it was a bit of a social outing to walk up to the place where they could get mobile signal.
Sweet
We have so many cultural differences but the culture of the cell phone unites us!!
Indeed it does. The need to communicate !
